Kathleen Dollard, Nashoba Financial Planning
Kathy Dollard has been in financial planning for 20 years, has run a sole proprietor practice for the last 16 years, and has been an ACP member for the last 10 years. She says that joining ACP was one of the best things she ever did. Within five years of joining, Kathy transitioned a struggling hourly practice to a profitable retainer practice, and currently is not taking on new clients as she “shrinks to retirement” and enjoys working with some really nice clients. Soon after joining ACP, Kathy built a 15-year bond ladder for her and her husband. She often experimented on herself first, and building that ladder gave her the confidence to do the same for her clients. Only one-third of her clients are retired, but 80% of all clients have a bond ladder. Even Kathy’s youngest clients in their mid-40s have the beginnings of a bond ladder. Most of them are in high-tech or another field where they are either concerned about being laid off in their 50s or they want to retire early. Kathy says she starts building her clients’ bond ladder to provide cash flow for early financial independence as soon as they can roll over old 401ks into an IRA. The only clients that don’t have a bond ladder are those who have all their retirement money in 401ks. She says that bond ladders have helped her clients (and her) face the future with confidence and clarity.
